Hiking in Sai Kung on National Day

Today was Hong Kong's National Day. I went hiking with some lovely people from The Hong Kong Hiking Meetup Group, a multicultural group with people from the US, UK, Australia, HK, and Netherlands. The hiking route was in Sai Kung, from Hoi Ha Road to Si Sai Road, a roughly 8km hike and took a little over 4 hours... and I am knackered.

The route difficulty is rated to be about 2.5 stars out of 5. Lots of clawing your way up with your hands, and let me tell ya some of those 'ups' were steeeeeeep. Hiked through loads of vegetation, think Jurassic Park without the trees... next time I'm definitely wearing trousers, no matter the weather. A bit of sliding down hills on gravel, loadsa rocky paths, uneven steps pathed at the edge of mountains, and going down hill was easy... not. The last hour of the trek we had to go down hill, and man were my legs starting to get the trembles i.e. from muscle tension.

We made a pit stop at a village called Cheung Sheung, actually I couldn't even see a village, I could only see the cafe stall we stopped at. Gosh that stall charges outrageous prices, easily double what you can get in town, and you know why? Its the only food stall, in the middle of nowhere, for miles around. Don't even mention the toilets, I took a peek at the hole in the floor, and did a u-turn.

A good hike though with some great views, although I was to busy watching my feet to really take a proper look. Not recommended for people with weak knees, going downwards really puts some stress on those knobbly bits.
