Spring Break: Hachijojima

My Dad came over to Japan to visit me during spring break, and we did loads! We went around mainland Tokyo; ferried over to Hachijojima, one of the Tokyo islands; and flew over to Oita!

We did the 11-hour ferry ride to Hachijojima, and returned by plane which takes 45 minutes. We had intended to stay for one night, but because of low visibility on the day of our departure, our flight was postponed until the next day.

We rented a car and went to most of the sightseeing spots on the island, including Nanbara Senjojiki, a stretch of volcanic rock along the coast; Mt. Hachijo-Fuji and the nearby ranch; hotsprings; a community fair promoting local produce with free tasters (by the way, ashitaba juice, however nutritious and high in B12 it is, it just doesn't taste nice); and the Freesia Festival. My Dad got a kick out of driving the kei car that we rented, which is a mini car that is only used in Japan.

Family is everything! Must have been fantastic to spend some time with the 'Head Honcho' after being away from the UK for so long? Of course your recent Blogs report on a great deal of Food Consumption. You will definitely have to climb Mt Fuji to help counteract your healthy(?) appetite. XXX

It was definitely great to see my Dad after so long. Made me realise just how much time had gone by.

Don't worry, my appetite is balanced out with plenty of exercise ;)
