Self-Pep

It's been a pretty good week, the best in fact, in a very long time.

I've finally realised that my local colleagues are unlikely ever to approach the ALT for anything whether it's for lesson ideas, learning materials, opinions, help etc., so I've decided that if I want something, I will ask for it. Nothing's going to happen if we're in a "stalemate".

Thinking about it, the English Board, my lunchtime broadcast, English books in the school library, translation of morning briefings, offering to be Camera Lady on Sports Day, although few and far between, are all things that I started, persisted in and set in motion. They're just trivial matters, but I felt real chuffed when the girls asked me to emcee their dance, when my sports day pics were used in the school newsletter and when the school librarian asked me to story tell next Friday.

If it's beneficial to the students/teacher/ALT, I've decided not to hold back with opinions either. Obviously, it won't be: "Sensei, I think your lessons are a load of crap," but meticulously worded, straight-to-the point constructive comments. Sometimes they listen and sometimes they don't, but when they do, it makes my job a hell of a lot better.

Work's still far from great, but I think I'm getting somewhere at last ;) Got myself a new red bicycle to get to work on too!
