Unfortunately, hiking will have to take a back seat :( Since coming back to London in September, I have spent around £500 on travel expenses alone - those train journeys to outside of London don't come cheap.
Instead, I've joined up with the local leisure centre to have unlimited access to gyms, swimming pools, running track and group classes. It's not so fulfilling, but hey, at only £21 a month near home, what can you say!
I've started temping too. The agency send me to different nurseries all over London to work as a nursery assistant. It's great experience for someone who's studying this field. It amazes me no end how different settings are ran so differently from each other, even though they're within the same city. The main similarity though is... can you guess? Everyday is Play Day. Letters, numeracy, writing and reading are right at the bottom of the list. Well, the British education system reflects this, doesn't it?

Hope your gym has stairs, you'll need to keep up your sublime climbing skill. I do the mega-tower I live in in HK. Unfortunately, 70 storeys is actually only a 150m climb :( Really interesting the differences you note between UK and HK kindergarten behaviour. There must be a Masters thesis in there somewhere.
Climbing stairs to keep fit is a good idea, however flights of stairs are hard to come by over here! Unless of course you happen to work in some of the "taller" buildings in Central London.
The only substitute I have at the moment are the weights and resistance cycling at the gym, to work on those upper leg muscles.
