Summer Holiday - Day 5

Day 5

Destination:
Shau Kei Wan 筲箕灣 (North-east Hong Kong Island)

Been There, Done That:
Looking around at the shops and stalls, stuff is pretty expensive here, some of the clothes I can get for around half the price on the mainland. (Bought a 15-set manga at a second-hand shop (at Quarry Bay) for HK$75 though! Less than a fiver!!)

Went temple sight-seeing again... there're so many temples in a country smaller than the size of London... actually, Hong Kong has approximately 600 temples, shrines and monasteries. Another place of worship is the Tsung Tsin Church, where it served as the temporary headquarters for the Japanese military police during the Japanese Invasion of 1941.

My last stop in Shau Kei Wan was the Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence, loads of British History, makes me proud of being a Briton. Interesting fact, during World War II, Hong Kong (and China for that matter) was under Japanese rulership for 3 and a 1/2 years... 3 and a 1/2 years of brutal leadership... Hopefully, history won't repeat itself, it's becoming unlikely anyway, China is becoming a very powerful country.

Afterwards, I caught a tram to Quarry Bay, bought my manga and headed home! It was heavy, but it was a nice, pleasant heaviness ;)

Btw, some info on trams: Trams run from Shau Kei Wan and Kennedy Town i.e. east and west of Hong Kong Island, and it only costs HK$2 (12 pence), no matter the distance you travel!!! Bargain or what?! The only thing is, is that it's much slower than the bus, but faster than a jog, but hey, it gets you from A to B, and it's the safest public transport in the country... and the seats are a bit hard on the bum.
