You know, when I said that not many teachers would leave cos of a reduction in salary, I was wrong. I don't know what's going on in the mind of the Principal, but it seems pretty outrageous to someone like me. Basically, the school is becoming half-state this September, with the main motive of getting funding from the government. However, it seems that the funding isn't enough, so they are pushing up school fees, hiring the minimum number of staff, taking in more students, cutting salaries, and increasing workloads without paying them for the extra effort... and even though I wasn't affected, god did I feel angry.
I got to know some great teachers at this school, teachers who really make the school 'quality', teachers whom I, in this short period of time have come to admire very much... and now, cos of the factors mentioned above, these teachers are leaving at the end of this term. F*cking sh*t isn't it? Their salaries are already low enough, only about £600-700 a month?!... and they are all already busy as hell, especially the single teachers without partners or assistants. Where usually two teachers of a classroom can share the workload, single teachers have to do everything, as well as taking on a share of the responsibilities in running the school i.e. working on display boards, teaching materials, events, admin and other paperwork. One of the teachers heard that she might have to teach 27 two year olds all by herself, with no extra pay for the extra effort, that did it for her, she left the contract unsigned. It's so crap, that principal is losing decent staff, I figure I will do my last year here too, I just want to gain another year of experience.
"Your salary and holiday have increased, the changes aren't really affecting you, so what are you complaining about?" I hear you thinking. Sorry, it's just that it's just SO wrong, keeps bugging me, made me feel a bit moody for the rest of the day. Maybe all the teachers should go on strike, it might work, it'd be trouble for the school if they fired everyone, cos they've been putting out ads for teachers for a year now, and up to now, no-one's properly applied (i.e. either no-one applied, or those who have, only managed to last a few days).
Ahh ahh~~ bad mood.
EDIT:
Don't get the wrong idea, I like working in this school. It's just that things like these really wither the experience.
