Taxi x Minibus

I came home from Mandarin class later than usual today.

"Really?" you say, wondering if this was the start of another piece of boring blogging. Maybe...

There's a T-junction, near where I live, that I have to pass through everyday to get to work and other places. Since I started working here in HK, it's been roughly 8 months, so far I've encountered two accidents at that exact spot. Last time there was a burst water mains, which made me late enough for work that it had to be deducted from my salary, and today we have a taxi and a minibus crashing into each other. The three 9s were out i.e. the police, the ambulance, and the fire brigade. Goodness knows what other accidents and occurences happen when I'm not passing through.

So why did the chicken cro... I mean, why did the taxi crash into the minibus, or was it the minibus before the taxi?

Minibuses or Public Light Buses (PLBs), are a very quick and efficient type of transportation to use, however there's a possible reason for this. The drivers are penalised if they are too slow, and they are checked regularly on this. I sometimes see regulators at certain bus stops, recording and ticking of the buses on their checklists as the PLBs pass through. Also, if they are not fast enough another minibus will overtake them and pick up all the passengers. So minibuses tend to have agressive drivers. To keep agressive drivers in check, they are limited to a speed of 80km/h. There are also speedometers with large displays at the front of the bus, so that the passengers can monitor their driver's speeds. Of course, it may not have been the fault of the minibus driver, but rather the taxi driver may have caused the accident, with the possibility of tons of other reasons.

Anyway, its a tough job being a HK minibus driver ay?! ...and I thought the driving in London was agressive!
