Combine a bread fest with a farmer's market, and the whole event becomes a dangerous place for the likes of me.
I bought loads of bread. I wish I could have bought more, but my freezer can only hold so much. I like Japanese breads, they're sweet, soft and fluffy, but my personal bread preferences lean more towards the denser kind with a good mouthfeel and chew to them. Nothing makes me happier than a simple meal of a nice, thick, wholesome and substantial soup accompanied with a chunk of bread. I'm easy to please ;)
I'd also bought a bottle of brown rice amazake, a Japanese fermented rice drink that contains rice as its main ingredient. It's so simple, I might just go ahead and try making it from scratch. All it is, is cooked rice that is mixed with Aspergillus Oryzae, a type of fungus, and incubated at a warm temperature until the sweetness is to your liking, which is about 10-14 hours. After all, I still have that packet of koji starter (the fungus) that the Hippy Lady in Kagoshima gave me...
