With nuclear plants exploding in Fukushima, caused by the recent earthquake, the worst is not over yet.
I would assume that my friend who chose this particular prefecture to experience Japanese life, did not expect these turn of events to happen during her stay in Japan. Her prefecture is right next to where the quake happened, and now she's approximately 60 miles away from where nuclear plants have exploded. She seems fine for the moment, told her to buy plenty of bottled water just in case.
137 miles away, there's a bottled water-buying frenzy in Tokyo, people are buying water, bread, milk and toilet paper like crazy... well, just in case, me included, I went around to several stores before I found some bottled water at the 7th shop I visited. I was already pretty much well-stocked, so I didn't have to buy much, just some candles and matches just in case Tokyo decides to have a blackout.
Anyway, will update if anything more happens.

Yes, it is. I think at the moment she's okay, people are being evacuated within a 20 mile radius from the explosions.
Right now, we are waiting in suspense for the quiet after the storm. Another large earthquake with a 70% chance of happening has been predicted, near/within the Miyagi-ken area. We're hoping it won't set of the three tectonic plates underneath Tokyo.
