Making a Mountain out of a Molehill

Since coming back in 2008, I've already successfully applied for several CRB checks (criminal record bureau checks). Every single time, I've always handed completed forms directly back, by hand, to the company that requested it. Unless otherwise told, there is no way that I would have taken the initiative to return one by post.

It's already halfway through the course, and I am still dealing with CRB problems at this university. Before the course started in September, I filled in a form for them in March. Come a month into the course, they tell me that there was no record of such a thing. Fine, mistakes always happen, so I filled in another and handed the form to the Lady in Charge of such things. She told me to show her the receipt once I've paid for the checks at the Student Office. I returned within half an hour.

Four months later, I still hadn't received my CRB cert, so I emailed up the Lady in Charge and guess what? There was no record of me having submitted a CRB form.

My tutor phoned me up, and sounding really annoyed, reprimanded me for not returning the form back in October!

I corrected her mistake, but she continued asking whether "you had forgotten to hand it in" and "maybe you sent it off by yourself". I explained that I still had the receipt as proof. She just kept on spouting sentences like "So you say", "If you did hand it in" and "You seem to think".

In her next email, and the next she kept on asking the same thing?! Does she expect me to be accountable for something I did not do?! ... "So, could it be that you sent it off yourself? Or forgot to return it to Lady in Charge? (The actual receipt is not enough proof of you submitting the form to Lady in Charge.)"... CC to the Lady in Charge.

Obviously, she believes a member of staff over a mere student. The Lady in Charge seems to want to place all blame on the student. I feel extremely disappointed in how this situation was approached and dealt with - certainly it wasn't done in a professional manner. Sadly, it's become an unnecessary glitch in what was supposed to be a well-organised course.

Guess I was luckier with my CRB Application, it came back in about 4 weeks. However being a Geriatric from the Distant Past (When We Were Trusted???), I took exception in the past and being Bloody Minded sent off with my application my Membership Cards from 70 years ago, of course no response to my sarcasm. CRB was meaninless, still had the Police knocking on the door because I delivered a Stamp Album to a child's Home without her Parents Permission?????

Yes, it's a bit sad really. Society has changed, and in this case, has changed for the worse... and CRB checks are full of loopholes. Anyway, mine is all sorted out now, what a relief!
