The interview went... okay, but I am having second, no, third thoughts about this job.

As I mentioned before, yeah it's only 2 weeks at a Summer playscheme, it's paid work, and I'd get a nationally recognised qualification. All worthwhile benefits.

However. Since arriving back long-term to the UK, I've been near-drowned in child-related legistration, which over here is called the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and forms part of the British Childcare Act 2006. The legislation was made compulsory last year to all early year settings i.e. nurseries, kindergartens, children centres. As an essential part of my course, I've learnt to observe children, and plan according to their interests and capabilities, to improve on their weaker points as well as to strengthen their stronger development points. I would like to put these skills into practice.

During the interview, I specifically asked about the duties of the position, and was told that, 'Nope, you don't have to observe the children, just plan any activity to keep the children occupied.' Seriously, shock! Horror! So basically you allow your workers, some of them with no childcare experience, to just randomly plan an activity without considering anything except for the fact that it just has to be fun?! If so, you're already telling interviewees that the company is breaking the law.

Hmmm, these employment agencies sound good...
