At Last, A Walk

Deadlines and uni are over, so I went for a long-awaited walk. The journey was about 12-miles from Tottenham to Greenwich, where we mainly followed the River Lea to the Thames.

Route:
Tottenham Hale Station > Warwick Reservoir > Walthamstow Marshes > along the aqueduct to the Middlesex Filter Beds > pass Hackney Marshes > through Hackney Wick, and branching off down the Grand Canal >pass Victoria Park > Mile End Park > Limehouse > Westferry > Mudchute Park > Greenwich (under river) Foot Tunnel > Cutty Sark.

The route winds through the more rural parts of London, where we got to appreciate the fresh air, open spaces, and English greenery that bloomed with flowers and overgrown with wild grass.

'Walk to Greenwich'

Brings back memories of over 60 years ago. From Sept '48 - Dec '48 I attended a Clerks' Course at the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich, so every weekend walked under the Thames then 'bus up to East Ham and train to Grays, for some of Mum's Cooking. Then on New Years Eve sailed from Harwich to Hook of Holland and train to Hannover to serve for 15 months in 3rd Regt Royal Horse Artillery in Verden/Aller.

Hope you are OK. Looks like being a good Harvest this Year so there should be plenty of 'Blackberry Butter'

Ron - that's quite a journey, but I suppose public transport was a lot cheaper 60 years ago.

Yes I'm ok, sorry for neglecting you! Will get in touch soon. x
