South West London

Did a 22 mile (35.4km) flat walk from Kingston to Richmond, via the Thames river bank, royal parks, woods, roads and Terminal 5 of Heathrow Airport. This took about 8 hours.

One of the parks was Bushy Park, and it was filled with deer... that were waiting to be culled. Apparently, the deer were over-breeding and damaging trees.

The walk was just suppose to be 20 miles, but with the Thames's water level rising, paths were cut off, and there was no other option but to detour around it. Quite strange, considering the fact that for the past week, we haven't had anything but the occasional drizzle here in London.

Thanks ;) The whole sky was beautiful, but I still haven't worked out how to do a panoramic. Please let me know if you do!

Google Earth'd it and that's look like a cool walk (hike?)! Kingston is pretty historical too(according to wiki). You went by Twickenham too didn't you? We did a harsh 4hr, 25km walk on HK Island last Sat....yours looks more fun.

Yes, you're right! We did pass through Twickenham, so from Kingston we went through the parks of Bushy, Fulwell, Crane, and Hounslow Heath; Heathrow airport; followed the Grand Union canal in Southall; Osterley Park; Syon Park; before finally crossing a bridge into Richmond.

It was an interesting walk/hike (well, hiking IS walking but at greater distance), with autumnal leaves falling like rain from the trees; going over and under bridges; squeezing through obstructed paths; and running across the M4! The airport part was a surprise! Lots of BA planes flying back and forth.

Read about your hike, sounds really intense! Wish I was there, after a hot shower and a cup of tea, you must have felt great!
