On my way to work this morning, my watch, which I have been using for over 8 years, has finally died on me. I haven't had to change the battery since I bought it in City Chain (HK) for $350 (roughly about £25). Being watchless is a bit of a nuisance, especially in my current position where I move from room to room, and all the classroom clocks are unsynchronized.
As soon as I was free of work, I immediately went to buy a watch. I couldn't really find one that I was completely satisfied with, they were either too expensive, the wrong size, the wrong material i.e. it had to be stainless steel, too feminine/masculine, too much bling, too ordinary/distinctive... gosh am I a fussy buyer. Would have preferred a digital watch, they are so much more straightforward, but in the end, I settled for a watch with hands. I find clockwork watches fiddley to set, so I got the shop assistant to do all the winding required to set the time, date, and day of the week, it was amusing to watch.
My new watch costs double the amount of it's predecessor, it has a shinier sheen and more fiddley bits... I should get use to it, and hopefully it'll last me another 8 years or more.
