It's been busy since my last post, what with Open Day (3 Nov) to prepare for. I had to lead a couple of pre-nursery classes beforehand... and for an inexperienced person like me, 3 x 15 minutes sessions was very tiring... the Chinese teacher assisting me adviced me to be more happy, with lots of talking, smiling and exaggerated movements... I don't think I'll be taking up pre-nursery teaching any time soon.
Some of the behaviour of a certain couple of kids is starting to make me feel down, they are deliberately disruptive in class, it isn't fair on the other kids, and their progress in English can be so much faster if I knew of a way to deal with those particularly misbehaved kids effectively. I've thought up a plan, and I'll be putting it to action next week, we'll see how it goes. I'm not expecting much support from the other teachers, being short of trained teachers as the school already is, they've got their workloads doubled.
Putting all that aside, I went hiking on Sunday! The plan was to hike to the top of Ma On Shan, a 702 metre hill, but with such a large group of people turning up (nearly 30), and some of them ill-prepared 1st time hikers, the leaders decided to take an easier alternative route around the mountain. Lots of greenery, shrubbery, vegetation and whatnot to barge through; wet, muddy puddles to splash in; slippery, mossy rocks to avoid stepping on... very wild. No seriously. I took my eyes off what was in front of me for one second, and I crashed into a tree... and no, I'm not related to George.
The new flats nearly ready, I should be able to move in later this month, and me mum's flying over tomorrow.
(PS-Yes, that's me clambering up a rock.)
